I really think that Freeview Australia is a great idea for Australian television. The more channels and choice we have the better it is going to be for all of us. I hope to see more channels launching in the future but I am not sure the Australian Government has set aside enough frequency spoectrum to allow for it and I think the major stations would have a problem if any others launched. Television spectrum is extremely expensive to purchase and the governemnt is trying to migrate all of the station to digital television by 2015. This then frees up the current analogue frequencies to be used by other things. There is potential there to introduce some form of wireless internet service on the existing analogue frequencies if and when the current usage stops. This would be a great way to deliver internet to everyone and I believe that Google are currently testing a network in the US with similar capabilities.
